Hebron is hosting an Indiana High School Athletic Association cross country sectional Saturday morning at the high school.
“This will be our second year hosting, and I couldn’t be more excited to host again,” Hawks coach Erin Charpentier said. ” We have a mostly flat, fast course that lends itself to really strong 5K times. Additionally, many strong teams come to compete, allowing everyone to get a glimpse at who some of the fiercest competitors will be as we move into the post-season.”
The boys field is headed by 15th-ranked Crown Point, the Duneland Athletic Conference champion, while the girls race should be between C.P. and Lowell, with Red Devils standout Karina James.
“I anticipate many individual regional qualifiers based on strong PCC times,” Charpentier said. “Currently, it looks like it will be a battle between my boys team and Illiana Christian to snag the fifth and last place to advance as a team to regionals.”
The top 10 individuals from non‐advancing teams and the first 5 qualifying teams from each sectional shall advance to designated regionals. Participating schools are 21st Century, Bowman Academy, Andrean, Crown Point, Illiana Christian, Lighthouse, Hanover Central, Hebron, Hobart, Lowell, Merrillville and River Forest.
The girls race is at 10 a.m. with the boys race to follow at 10:45. An awards ceremony will take place in the gym Fans will be allowed to sit upstairs and are asked to adhere to safety guidelines by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing from people outside of their immediate family.
Admission is $5.
