Hebron Boys Soccer defeated Rensselaer 3-2 on penalty kicks Saturday night to win the Class A Regional 9 championship at Newton Park. After ending regulation tied at 2-2 and a scoreless overtime, the Hawks outscored the Rockets 5-4 in the penalty kick shootout.
The first three shooters from each team scored, and then Botts made the only stop of the shootout. He dove to his right and deflected Pierce VanHouten’s shot to keep it from crossing the line.
“It’s the scariest thing in the world going back there with no warmup, and you just have to pick a side,” Botts said. “I chose before he even shot it, went that way (and) luckily got a piece of it.”
Justin Deslauriers scored to put Hebron (19-0) in front 4-3, and Dawson Walsh won the game for the Hawks with a goal in the fifth round.
